Carpenter becomes the fall guy; Corporator asks why did the residents not protest

On Thursday, after a

covid positive case

was reported from a house in Domlur, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike personnel landed up and started nailing metal sheets across the door, to ‘contain’ the residents.

This horrifying visual was posted on Twitter by a resident of the building at 2.33 pm. Soon social media was abuzz and so were WhatsApp groups. Many tweets tagged the authorities to amplify the issue.

What appalled Bengalureans and Twitterati was that the inmates of the house were a lady and her two young children and her neighbours were an old couple. Both their entrances were sealed with tin sheets. As news spread like wildfire of this inhuman and senseless ‘containment’, BBMP asked its personnel to remove the sheets and the

Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, the lady whose house was ‘nailed shut’ said that her house maid had tested positive and was asymptomatic. Her house was sealed at around 11 am on Thursday and the BBMP removed it in the evening after the Twitter outrage.

He told BM, “It’s the mistake of the carpenter who was asked to seal down the apartment. Instead of using tape, he used something else. The residents should have alerted the worker not to do it in such a way. The carpenter has apologised and the issue has now been resolved.”

Show cause notice issued

Commenting on the incident, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad said, “I ordered for the immediate removal of barricade as soon as I got to know of it. I have also issued a show cause notice to the executive engineer. W
