‘Sickening efforts’ being made to topple govts: Ashok Gehlot to PM

JAIPUR: In a letter to PM Modi peppered with anger and anguish, Rajasthan CM

Ashok Gehlot

has said “sickening efforts” are being made to topple elected governments through horse-trading of MLAs at a time when combating the Covid-19 pandemic should be the priority. “I am not aware how much of all this is in your knowledge, or if you are being misled. History will never forgive those who become a party to such acts,” states the letter dated July 19.

While accusing Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat of orchestrating the crisis in Rajasthan, Gehlot mentions that other


functionaries and “some over-ambitious leaders from our party (


) are involved, too”. Naming suspended MLA Bhanwarlal Sharma as one of the alleged conspirators, the CM’s letter paints him as a repeat offender who had tried to destabilise the erstwhile BJP government of late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat through “salepurchase” of legislators.
