Dispur:It seems that the highly secured Guwahati Central Jail premises is not safe from the trespassing of the deadly COVID-19 virus as it has caught hold of inmates in the jail. COVID-19 have so far in its clutches 52 inmates of the jail.
The jail inmates who tested COVID-19 positive so far includes top named like an RTI activist and peasant leader Akhil Gogoi, his subordinates of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Dhiraj Konwar and Bitu Sonowal,11 leaders of militant outfit NDFB including its Chief Ranjan Daimary who is the mastermind of the 30 October 2008 serial blasts across Assam which claimed the lives of 88 people besides injuring around 600 others.
The COVID-19 infected list also includes the name of a top CPI Maoist leader. All the infected patients have been immediately shifted to various hospitals in Guwahati for further treatment.
Meanwhile, alarmed by the massive spike in COVID-19 positive cases in Guwahati Central Jail, the Kamrup Metropolitan DC has declared the entire jail premises and the area in the vicinity a containment zone banning any unauthorised entry and exit.
