Coronavirus India LIVE Updates: Total confirmed cases in India have risen to 9.3 lakh.

Coronavirus News LIVE Updates: Today is the 113th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown, to curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. India has so far recorded 9,36,181 cases, which includes 24,309 deaths. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat have reported the highest number of cases. However, the recovery rate is rising and now stands at 63.2 percent.

Globally, there have been over 1.3 crore confirmed cases of COVID-19. More than 5.7 lakh people have died so far.

    COVID-19: TN govt gives consent to BCG trial at ICMR’s Chennai institute

    Sanction has been accorded to a trial by the Indian Council of Medical Research’s Tuberculosis institute here to study the efficacy of BCG vaccine in the
    elderly in the fight against COVID-19, the government said on Wednesday.

    Chief Minister K Palaniswami, in an order, has given the State’s approval after ICMR sought Tamil Nadu government’s permission to study the efficacy of the Bacillus Calmette-Gurin (BCG) vaccine in senior citizens at its National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT) at Chetpet here,Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said. 

    “The ICMR’s tuberculosis institute is set to begin the trial very soon,” he said in a statement. (PTI)

    Odisha’s COVID-19 death toll mounts to 77; infection tally rises to 14,898

    Odisha’s death toll due to coronavirus mounted to 77 with three more patients succumbing to the disease on Wednesday, while the infection tally rose to 14,898 with 618 fresh cases, a health department official said. Two men from Ganjam district, aged 65 and 86 years, and a 72-year-old man from Bhubaneswar city, died of the disease, he said.

    “Regret to inform the demise of three COVID-19 positive patients while under treatment in hospitals,” the official said in a statement. With these fatalities, the COVID-19 death toll increased to 77 in the state. 

    Ganjam reported 46 deaths, followed by 13 in Khurda, eight in Cuttack, two in Puri, and one each in Angul, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Rayagada and Sundergarh, the official said. (PTI)

    Three elderly people, including a woman succumbed to COVID-19 in Puducherry, while 67 fresh cases were recorded on Wednesday, taking the aggregate in the
    Union Territory to 1,596. A senior Medical Officer and Chief of Government Pharmacy, Sri Ramulu told reporters that 67 new cases were identified and admitted to the hospitals here and in Yanam at the end of testing of 687 samples during the last 24 hours. (PTI)

    Coronavirus India LIVE updates | COVID-19 fatalities in Rajasthan rise to 527

    Three more deaths due to coronavirus infection were recorded in Rajasthan on Wednesday, taking the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in the state to 527, an official said.

    With 235 new cases reported, the total number of people infected with this deadly virus in the state has increased to 25,806. One death each was reported in Udaipur, Ajmer and Bharatpur, the official said. (PTI)

    Industry chamber FICCI’s arm on Wednesday said illicit trade has emerged as one of the most formidable challenges before the nation, especially during the current coronavirus pandemic which has led to an economic distress. 

    FICCI’s Committee Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Activities Destroying the Economy (CASCADE) said several cases of smuggling of goods such as gold, cigarettes, liquor have been reported amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

    “The perpetrators of illicit trade are always looking at innovative ways to deceive the system to carry out their activities. This deeply harms the economic interests of the nation and the society ends up paying a huge cost,” FICCI CASCADE Chairman Anil Rajput said in a statement. (PTI)
